What is Puzzles & Survival? Puzzles & Survival is a post zombie-apocalyptic themed, mixed genre, cross-platform, multiplayer online game. That might seem like a mouthful and it is but I’m gonna talk about each aspect of it. It is developed and produced by a game company called 37 games and I do believe it was released in October of 2020 has over 5,000,000 downloads and with millions of active players worldwide and currently has over 200 active servers and more being launched as each server fills up. It is growing in popularity and it is addicting and fun!
Because it is cross platform, obviously Apple and Android users can play it and it caters to many types of game players. It is a free to play game so you can spend as little or as much as you want.
So what are the genres what does that mean? You have a sanctuary and that is what they call the city you build. You could call it your city, your sanctuary, your headquarters, whatever you wanna call it – it’s all about building. now that’s just one aspect of the game and that ties into the player vs player aspect but the sanctuary is where you hide from the zombies. You build it up by leveling up buildings, you collect resources, you have mystery shops, and more! Your sanctuary is a big aspect of the game.
The second aspect of the game is player versus player online battles. You take your sanctuary, your troops, your army, and you go out into the world and attack other players so this is a lot of fun for military type gamers where you have a lot of fun enjoy going to battle and testing out your skills versus other players. You can also join an alliance. Some games call it a Guild. This is basically where you can work together with a team of other players playing the game to help you build your sanctuary, to fight in events, and to battle other alliances and later eventually other states as well.
The other aspect of the game is the match 3 system in campaign. It is a fairly basic match 3 system. A lot of match three games exist and some can be very complex and some can be very simple this is based off of a simple principle of just matching tiles with three matches or more. It can get a bit more difficult later in game but it ties into another aspect of the game which is hero collections.
So when you go into a battle you choose your heroes. You get new heroes by collecting their “frags” (short for fragments). This is where you’re gonna start you’re gonna start off battling zombies and bosses. You match 3 tiles and it does damage to the enemies. One of the key differences between this and other match three games is that the tile damage is based off of your heroes stats. Your heroes have attack, defense, and hit points. (Or health points.) When you match 3 red tiles it does damage based upon your red heroes. When you match 3 green tiles, it does damage based upon your green heroes. There are weaknesses that you can see on the top left of the battle screen. You can also select autobattle and it will select tiles for you. Not necessarily the best picks every time but it’s an easy way to complete a stage if you know you’re gonna win the battle. In addition to the tiles, heroes have special skills. Your heroes will light up once they have enough of their ‘rage’ filled (by clearing tiles) and then you can activate their special skill by clicking on their avatar and doing extra damage!
It is important to collect heroes and understand how they work and how they work together! This is a great way to get introduced to the game and this is where you start off. Once you get past the first part of the tutorial then you’re going to start building your sanctuary!
You will start building troops and building defenses and you’re able to then go into the world and start raiding zombie layers, killing zombies on the map and fighting other sanctuaries. You will have a shield until your headquarters reaches level 10 so you cannot be attacked unless you attack first. You will be able to join an alliance and start in interstate battles and intrastate battles (once the state is old enough). Winning battles grants loot for levelling up your heroes, leveling up your sanctuary, and leveling up your gear.
If you’re a ‘collector’ and you like collecting heroes; this is a great game for that! I really enjoy this aspect of the game. I try to collect all the heroes. There are plenty of heroes to obtain and they release new ones regularly. Each hero has different skills for the match 3 aspect of the game, and a different set of skills for the pvp aspect of the game.
If you like collecting heroes; this is a good game for you! If you like match 3 gameplay; this is a good game for you! If you like multiplayer player vs player military based games; this is a good game for you! If you just like a zombie apocalypse theme; this is a good game for you!
The biggest thing I wanna talk about outside of those three main aspects of gameplay are the events. Puzzles & Survival hosts events every day of the week on a constant rotation. The events are geared towards teaching you how to play the game. Different events you have to level up certain things or get certain items and that is going to teach you what you need to do to get stronger in the game and become a better player! The events are fun because you’re going to get rewarded for doing things that you want or need to do anyways so this is a way to train yourself and make sure that you’re staying on point by making sure that you’re completing the events.
You do have daily quests that you can do to get points and these of course will give you rewards not only on a daily basis but every week! If you are in an alliance you will get points based upon your alliance activity which will then allow you to get some bonus boxes!
